GETTING MY REPS IN...

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned how I was working to get the film distributed. Well, I'm now one step closer - I potentially have a Producer's Rep. I know, whazzat?

A producer's rep will represent me and our film to distributors. He has "connections" and understands the whole process of distribution, so he will be undertaking those efforts. For this, he'll receive a percentage of however much the film makes.

I know some of you might be thinking, "Why can't you just do this yourself?" And the answer is...I could. But he knows this area better than I, he's familiar with the players, and, frankly, I'm tired.

Think about how long I've been making these posts on Facebook. (HINT: it's been more than a couple of years.) For that entire period, about 90% of my time outside of work & family has been spent on this film. Now, I'm near the finish line but it would be great to have someone carry the baton the last few yards. (And trust me, I will still have PLENTY to do while he's trying to make a sale.)

Right now, the rep and I are just making sure the agreement paperwork all makes sense. He seems like a good guy, his referrals all checked out, and he really appears to get our film. That's what you want in a rep, plus my gut has a good feeling and it served me well on the film (even when I starved it).

I'm crossing my fingers that the paperwork gets wrapped up this week and we move into that final stretch. We're getting there!
