THE FOLKS YOU MEET ALONG THE WAY

One of the nifty aspects of making a film is all the people you meet along the way. You'll meet people like you who are trying to make films themselves, as well as those who have actually survived making an indie film. And one of the coolest aspects of this is - we're all rooting for one another! (I mean, there are a handful of arseholes out there, but let's ignore them...)

We want others to make these indie films so we know it's possible. And they share what they learned along the way, just as I've already passed along some of the lessons I've learned. We want to see those weird creations that can only be made outside of Hollywood. We want to see that our dreams are possible.

I met one of those filmmakers during my festival journeys - Jarrett Bryant. He actually reached out to me after seeing my film at a festival we were both a part of. He's a NW filmmaker whose journey to making his first feature had several similarities to mine. His film is a completely different genre than Browntown, but it is fantastic! We've had several chats via phone, text, and email, and I've been super-glad to have someone to commiserate with about festival craziness.

So, I realize this is last minute, but if anyone in Seattle is looking for an outing tonight, head over to the NW Film Forum where Jarrett's film "Maxie" will be screening as part of the Local Sightings Festival. You'll get to meet a cool filmmaker, plus I'll be there (win-win!). Filmmakers, ho!
